EARRING CARE

hook earrings
handy tip
Please wear the little rubber earring stoppers provided on all of the hook style earrings. These are a little clear cap that you slide onto the hook once in your ear and is not visible. Unfortunately I am unable to supply single replacements for lost earrings.
earring care
storage & water
Keep your earrings somewhere clean and dry, out of direct sunlight. Keep away from oil, liquid, moisturiser, sprays and make up as this could cause discolouration and affect longevity. Get yourself ready first and then your earrings should be the last thing you put on.
Do not wear in water. Please take off your earrings before showering, bathing and swimming to prolong their use.

Are your earrings in need of a little...
GLOW UP
Most metals will naturally tarnish over time. For your silver, you can polish up your pieces by rubbing them with a dry microfibre cloth to bring back their shine. Alternatively you can get specific polishing cloths for silver from many places online if you search. Brass will naturally darken and can look a little 'dirty' over time. Use the sanding pad + polishing cloth below to give it a glow up. Gold and Stainless Steel shouldn't ever tarnish. If you're unsure what metal you've got, just get in touch and send me a photo and I can advise.

If your brass earrings are in need of a little glow up, use this pad to revive their shine. Use the blue side to sand in a circular motion for an even finish, then use the white side to buff. Then give a little wipe with the polishing cloth. Look at the difference it makes in 30 seconds!
Please note this sanding pad doesn't work with textured brass, only flat brass pieces.
keeping it
natural
Due to the nature of cork, leather and wood being natural materials, there will be variations in surface texture, grain, tone and pattern position. Leather and wood can naturally change colour over time, just like nature as it constantly changes through the seasons. This is not a flaw, but something to celebrate as it adds a unique character to your earrings as no two pairs will be exactly the same. On the reverse of the leather, some of the fibres can work themselves to the edge. These can be carefully pulled away or snipped closely with some scissors to restore a nice clean edge.

Hallmarked
SILVER & GOLD
LLUMINEAR earrings are made from the finest quality hardware with all hooks, hoops and stud posts/backs being made from hallmarked 925 sterling silver or 14ct gold and carry the hallmark stamp to prove their genuine quality.
Solid gold is very expensive, so the next best thing is gold filled, which means they are coated in real 14ct gold instead. Gold is very hard wearing and does not rub off or tarnish over time.
925 Sterling silver means that they contain 92.5% silver. As silver is too soft to be used in its pure form then it has to be mixed with another metal which makes up the other 7.5%. Sterling Silver will naturally tarnish over time, you can easily bring the shine back by buffing it with a polishing cloth. Be warned, it is quite addictive, and you’ll want to polish all your silver Jewellery. Keep on shining!
If it isn't hallmarked then it isn't genuine. Be aware of descriptions out there such as 'gold', 'silver', 'gold plated' or even 'sterling silver plated'. These may look the same to the untrained eye but are merely just the colour silver or gold and not actually real silver/gold. They are not genuine and may only include a very miniscule layer of silver/gold (in some cases just 1%) over a cheaper base metal of copper, nickel or a metal mix. Because the top layer is so thin it will wear off quickly and reveal the cheap base metal underneath which can then irritate your ears. I only use hallmarked hooks, hoops and studs at LLUMINEAR so you can be assured you are getting a quality pair of earrings. If I can't wear them myself, I won't sell them...

NAtural Materials
CORK, LEATHER & WOOD
The cork I use to make my earrings is from cork oak and no trees are cut down to create this. Once the cork oak tree has matured, the bark is carefully stripped by a skilled harvester and the tree is left to continue to grow. The Cork oak tree commonly lives to 200 years old and the bark can be stripped many times during its life. How incredible is that!
The leather I use in my earrings is high quality genuine real Italian leather. Leather is strong yet soft and comfortable to wear, which makes it a very versatile natural material. Leather has had an increase in popularity in recent times as we are turning to natural based materials over plastic. Faux leather and vegan leather is made of plastic. As a brand we want to keep plastic to a minimum and believe it is much better to use natural materials where we can.
I use wood for the stud posts and some of the seasonal coloured earrings. The wood is FSC which means it is sustainably sourced and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
